About Our Northern California FamilySearch Centers
Although AAGSNC has been fortunate to have enjoyed a long term relationship with the FamilySearch Center in Oakland, California, there are other FamilySearch Centers in northern California to support your research if travel to the Bay Area is not an option for you. As our membership has grown geographically, so have the resources available to members in locations other than the Oakland FamiySearch Center.
Within the greater Sacramento region and its surrounds, there are near 20 centers and affiliate locations. You can find them all here. There are about 18 locations if you live closer to San Jose, and you can find those here. There’s actually a FamilySearch Center for San Francisco! You have to go to Pacifica to visit it, but at least you don’t have to cross a bridge if you don’t feel like it!
Wherever you go to conduct your research, there are plenty of resources and volunteers to assist you. You can receive personalized help and access to technology that features computers, internet, and subscription family history websites. You’ll find access to all online family history programs, and accessing these at the Center will often yield more results than you are able to receive at home. The centers also give you special access to images of historical records that are available only in centers.
Every 4th Wednesday of the month from 6 – 8pm, AAGSNC member Pat Jenkins, hosts the African American Research Workshop at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. No matter where you live, if you don’t want to travel anywhere at all, you can now join the workshop via Zoom! You can join the Zoom meeting here.
Happy ancestor hunting!
